Many of us love the idea of growing fresh vegetables but don’t have the space or time. Kitchen gardens are a new trend that combines vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers in a garden right outside your back door. Presented by Henrico Cooperative Extension and Henrico Master Gardeners.

Asian American Film Festival: Dim Sum
Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart (1985, PG, 84 min). After visiting a fortune teller in Chinatown, San Francisco, an elderly immigrant widow is convinced that she will die within the year and wants nothing more than to see her daughter married. Her daughter, though devoted to family, is conflicted. An intimate portrait of a mother-daughter relationship, this film is directed by Wayne Wang and stars Laureen Chew, Kim Chew, and Victor Wong.

Chinese Games: Mahjong
Learn to play the popular tile game Mahjong. This four-player game has similarities to the card game rummy. While multiple variations on the rules exist, we will learn a basic version and will not be focusing on scoring. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Speaker William Therrien, Ph.D. & Belva Collins, Ph.D.
Participate in a conversation between Dr. Therrien and FPC member Dr. Belva Collins. This is an excellent opportunity to gain information and insight into the support and inclusion of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Dr. Therrien is Professor at the University of Virginia where he is affiliated with the STAR initiative which focuses on transformative autism research. In addition, he is editor of Exceptional Children, the premiere research journal in special education. His expertise is in designing and evaluating academic programs for students with autism and learning disabilities.
Dr. Belva Collins is Professor Emeritus at both the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and the University of Kentucky. Her expertise and research are in working with students with significant support needs, including autism, with a focus on inclusion in their faith communities.
